Marduk - World Funeral
This review of today has waited far too long for the quality of the album, if I have to believe the other reviews. Well, lets see if they are right or not. Marduk is a band that has settled its name by constantly delivering strong albums, with a great peak in Panzer Division Marduk. Then La Grande Danse Macabre was made, and I must confess I didnt enjoy that album as much as Panzer Division Marduk or Fuck Me Jesus. World Funeral is their new record, and it came out earlier this year. Lets see what it holds. The first track With Satan And Victorious Weapons begins with an intro and blasts into the music after a few seconds. Already better than La Grande Danse, this song pounds and batters through time. The ambiance of the album dark and droopy, which is stated by the song Bleached Bones. Marduk ease of the throttle there and do that with deadly precision. With 2 songs done, I eagerly continued with the 3rd. This song sounds very much Panzer Division like and is definitely one of the finer songs. The intensity has improved a little and World Funeral is already beginning to sound like a good balanced mix of Panzer Division and La Grande Danse, with a little trace of Nightwing in it. Actually there is nothing to add except that the album follows this path. A cool noteworthy song is Bloodletting, which is one of the slowest songs on the album, but with such strong riffs that its very headbangable. Marduk have proven that they have not weakened. I must confess that the originality is far from high again, but Marduk is doing its thing, and is doing it well also. World Funeral is an album of proportion that can easily add something good to the immense discography of the band. As I said, this album sounds very much like a mix between older albums. There arent any big changes and the listener will be entertained with 47 minutes of blasting and pumping riffs. A good album, but it just doesnt reach the intensity of Panzer Division Marduk. Try listening to the title track World Funeral and Hearse. If you are in to fast brutal black metal with certain traces of Death in it, you wont be disappointed. Track List: 1: With Satan And Victorious Weapons 2: Bleached Bones 3: Cloven Hoof 4: World Funeral 5: To The Deaths Head True 6: Castrum Doloris 7: Hearse 8: Night Of The Long Knife 9: Bloodletting 10: Blessed Unholy 11: Blackcrowned Line Up: Vocals Legion Guitars - Morgan Steinmeyer Hkansson Bass B.War Drums Emil Dragutinovic
